There are some problems with poetry.

It's an overly academic field, dominated by affluence and in-groups.

But it wasn't always that way. And it doesn't have to be that way.

Anyone can write poetry, anyone who can string a few words together. It doesn't need to be profound or breathtaking. Poetry is weakest when it's art for art's sake.

Poetry shines when it reflects concrete experiences in people's lives. On more advanced levels, it can be wordplay - but it doesn't have to be.

I want to show important poetry is. Especially right now.

Do you know/have you wrote a poem that:

  • is socially/culturally relevant
  • is about inequality
  • touches upon class-related issues
  • is about your work/job
  • relates to a problem many people are currently experiencing
